Arlene Smith

Arlene Smith was born February 14, 1927, in Marion, Kansas to Cecil Pierce and Lillian Parker Pierce and has lived in Albuquerque since 1950. Her husband of 64 years, Max A. Smith, preceded her in death in 2011. She is survived by her daughters Caroline Gilley, husband Terry and grandsons Eric and Darrin; Christine Grinde, grandchildren Marc and Cheryl; Elaine Prentice, husband Steve, grandsons Daniel and Christopher; and son Kent Smith, granddaughter Stacey. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Her twin sister Ilene DeLong of Midland, Texas survives her. She is predeceased by her brother, Phil Pierce, sister, Thelma Adams, and mother, Lillian Pierce and daughter-in-law, Karen Smith and son in law, Harold Grinde. Arlene earned a BS degree in Business Administration from Kansas State University in 1947. She and Max first met while playing in the Kansas State band. Arlene was very well known in golf circles in Albuquerque. She belonged to the Los Altos, Arroyo Del Oso, and Puerto Del Sol women's golf associations and won the Los Altos Women's Club championship 23 times. She had four holes in one during her 57 years of playing. She was a 64-year member of P.E.O. Chapter AH-AX, a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir and ringing bells, a member of Cornerstone UMC, and a volunteer at Presbyterian Hospital for over 30 years.The family thanks A Love for Life and Roadrunner Hospice for the beautiful care they provided during Arlene's last years.

Services will be held Thursday, November 20, 2025 at 12:00 pm at French Funerals and Cremations - Wyoming Chapel. Interment will follow at 2:30 pm at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
