Anthony J. Russo died on Sunday, April 19, 2026. He was born in Brooklyn, NY to Maria Coviello and Anthony Russo. He graduated from Brooklyn Tech and enlisted in the US Air Force. After serving four years, he went to the University of Notre Dame. He graduated in 1960 with a degree in Electrical Engineering . He married Anne Pazera, a graduate of St. Mary's College in the ND log chapel. They moved from South Bend, Indiana to Albuquerque where he was employed by Sandia Laboratories. He was in the first Training Development Program where he earned a Masters degree from UNM. He was a distinguished member of the Technical Staff at the laboratories and received numerous awards including excellence in the development of natural gas storage in 1993 and the NOVA award for teamwork in 1996. He was a parishioner at St. Bernadette Catholic Church where he had been an Extraordinary Lay Minister for 10 years, a CCD teacher and a lector. After Vatican 2 he was an elected member of the first parish council and voted as chairman of the World and Community Life committee. He authored several papers and a book titled Follow the Pope.
The Russo children are Peter Russo (Maureen), Christina Senior (Bruce), Mary Malinauskas (Rich) and Tony Russo (Lynn.) The are eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
If you wish to donate in his memory do so to a charity of your choice or to the Brothers of the Good Shepherd in Albuquerque.
The Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, April 30, 2026 at the Shrine of St. Bernadette, starting at 9:40 am. Burial will be in the National Cemetery in Santa Fe.
