Alvaro Rey Navarrette August 14, 1930 - May 31, 2025 Alvaro Rey Navarrette a long-time resident of Albuquerque New Mexico died on Sunday, May 31, 2025, of natural causes. He was one of eight children born to David Navarrette and Maria Del Monte Reyes in Malaga, New Mexico. He lived in Carlsbad for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Inez of almost 70 years of marriage, and his granddaughter, Monique Romney. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Salvador David and Robert Navarrete as well as sisters Anita Pena, Leonor Luna and Senaida and Amparo Navarrette. Alvaro is survived by his children: Theresa Navarrette- Nuanez (husband-Clarence), Robert Navarrette (wife-Diana), Tom Navarrette (wife- Elaine), Rebecca Navarrette, Rick Navarrette (wife -Sandra), Virginia Navarrette Dunn (husband - David). Grandchildren, Michael Nuanez (wife-Michelle), Elizabeth Nuanez (husband- Ranjith Kizhakkedoth), Thomas Navarrette, Violet Palomino (husband-Jesus), Rick Navarrette Jr., Krista Navarrette, David Lee Dunn and Brittany Jackson (husband- William). Great grandchildren Rsha Kizhakkedoth, Devram Kizhakkedoth, Natalia Hamm, Haven Navarrette, Liam Navarrette, James Blakely Gabaldon , Michael Nuanez Jr. Hallah Nuanez, and Grayson Nuanez. Alvaro also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Alvaro was an avid reader, even as a young age. He was smart and pulled from school during harvest times. However, upon returning school, not only did he catch up, but surpassed his peers Alvaro enlisted in the army and served in the Korean war as a corporal. After his enlistment he returned to Carlsbad where he met and married Inez. He worked as a surveyor for the city of Carlsbad. Subsequently he began his career working with a state highway department. (Dept. of Transportation now). He began as a surveyor and retired as a project manager in charge of major road projects in the state of New Mexico including Tatum, Gallup, Cuba: Farmington & Albuquerque. Alvaro had an excellent work ethic and lead strongly in everyone working to their abilities and hard work. He was especially proud of his grandchildren, whether through military service, college, graduations, job promotions etc. He knew their accomplishments reflected qualities. He greatly admired. Alvaro enjoyed visiting many states in the US and was a history buff. What he enjoyed most were spending time with his wife Inez, and the casinos.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 11th, at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic church, 811 Guaymas Place in Albuquerque. A viewing will be held at 10:00am, rosary at 10:30am, with mass at 11:00am. A reception will be held following the church service at FRENCH-Lomas. Interment will be held the following day at 10:00am at the Santa Fe National. Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico
