Alma Robert Winn

Alma Robert Winn, 88, passed away at his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico on May 26, 2017.

Alma was born on November 9, 1928 in Nephi, Utah to Robert Edgar and Beatrice Winn. He was the fifth of six children. He raised black faced sheep in his youth and won ribbons for them in numerous state and local fairs. He graduated from Juab High School in 1947 and attended Snow College and the University of Utah. Alma married Rhea Geraldine (Gerry) White in the Manti Temple in Utah on August 18, 1950. Shortly after their marriage his National Guard unit was called to active duty in the Korean War where he proudly served in the 145th Field Artillery Battalion. After returning home from the Korean War, Alma began a career with the Standard Oil Company (later Chevron Oil Company). During his career, he was routinely promoted and transferred within the company with his last position as a Sales Representative in the Albuquerque area. He was a respected member of his company and retired from Chevron Oil Company after 38 years of service. He has been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many capacities including Scout leader, teacher, clerk, counselor, branch president and Ordinance worker in the Albuquerque Temple. Alma loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening, wood carving, RVing, making jerky to share with others, and spending time with his wife and family. He would generously share the proceeds of his garden with his family and neighbors. Alma was friendly with anyone he met and would go out of his way to help those in need. Alma will be greatly missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gerry; his son, Jeffery; a grandson, Matthew Alma; and a great-granddaughter, Natalie. He leaves behind his loving children, Debbie Packer (Nathan), Robert Winn, Wendy Redic (Eric) and Danny Winn (Tina); 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.  Services will be Thursday, June 1, 2017 with the viewing from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and the Funeral Service beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Chapel, 12701 Indian School Rd NE.
