To sum up a person's life in an obituary is impossible but here it goes...
Alicia "Alice" Molina was born on June 28, 1947, to parents Cresencio and Mauricia Molina in Roswell, New Mexico. As was sometimes the custom in those days, Alice was given to her grandparents, Eduardo "Lalo" and Juanita Aragon to be raised. She also gives credit to her Aunt Ramona Aragon Ramirez for raising her.
She was not a fan of high school and often shared stories of ditching class to drink Coke and smoke cigarettes. Despite this, she was part of the first graduating class of Goddard High School in 1966. She then moved to Albuquerque with her best friend, Gloria Galvan, to attend CNM.
In 1968 she married Eloy Ramirez, Sr., and they moved to Waikiki, Hawaii, where he was stationed for the first few years of their marriage. Young and newly wed, those were some of her fondest memories - living in paradise. Alice's sole wish in life was to be a mother, homemaker, and later grandmother. She began to accomplish this in 1976 with Eloy Jr. born in January, followed by Marina in December. She would have had 10 kids if she had her way, but unfortunate circumstances prevented it.
Alice spent nearly 20 years in Pampa, Texas, and raised Junior and Marina there. She was the most selfless, generous, and loving mother one could ask for. Alice was devoted to her kids and supported and encouraged them in whatever endeavor they chose. And no matter where she lived, she made the place a cozy home with her talent for decorating.
Alice held a variety of jobs through her lifetime, but according to her final notes, the "best job ever" was working for Chaves County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) in Roswell. This nonprofit provides a powerful voice and support for abused, neglected and vulnerable children and their families. Alice was also a devoted caregiver to many. Her huge heart and compassion suited her well for this career. She worked at the Peachtree Village Retirement Community as well as Comfort Keepers in Roswell. The son of a client wrote her a letter once expressing his heartfelt gratitude for connecting with his Mom the way no other person could, even her own children.
Alice moved to Sandia Park, New Mexico, in 2009 in anticipation of the birth of her granddaughter. She spent the next 10 years helping to care for and spoil her granddaughters, Olivia & Sonya. It became customary for the girls to ask to sleepover at Ama's as she was their best playmate. Ama attended as many dance recitals, gymnastics meets, track meets, volleyball games and school functions as she could. It was no doubt they were her pride and joy!
Alice loved to dance, travel whenever she could, her dogs Freckles and later Mattie, Mexican food, chile - the hotter the better, Coca-Cola, and watching Days of Our Lives (for over 50 years!). Alice had a firm belief in the Bible and its promises and credits her Grandpa Lalo for instilling this trait in her.
Alice's final days were spent at Westwind House Assisted Living. Her daughter, son, and cousins, Victorina Aragon Estrada and Ida Aragon, shared days and nights staying by her side. The family would like to thank all of the Westwind staff for their loving and compassionate care over the years. It was truly felt by us in those final weeks.
Alice drew her last breath with her son and daughter by her side on Sunday, October 13, 2024. Deeply saddened but grateful she is no longer suffering, we look forward to the day we can hug our beautiful Mom once again. John 5:28, 29, "...the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out...to a resurrection of life."
Alice was preceded in death by those who raised her; sisters Consuelo "Chello" Segui, Manuela "Mela" Ortega, and Clara Baca; brothers Leo and Raymond Molina; Pete, Milo, and Salvador Baca.
Alice is survived by her siblings, Carlos Molina, Victor Baca, and Susie Aragon; her children Eloy Jr. (Keira M.) Ramirez, and Marina (Orlando) Gonzales; and her granddaughters Chelsea, Ella, Olivia, and Sonya.
