Alfred Martinez

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alfred 'Al' Martinez on May 23, 2026. Al was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, father, and grandfather. He was a man known for his ingenuity and creativity, green thumb, and love of nature and wildlife. Over the past three and a half years, Al battled esophageal cancer and other serious health challenges. He met these with determination and resilience, even during the most difficult moments. Al was born in Taos, New Mexico. He is preceded in death by his parents, Abad and Josephine Martinez; his sister, Lillian Mae Nagle; and his brother, Antonio Abad Martinez Jr. He is survived by his sisters, Margaret Dolores Ortiz and Laura Martinez Van Arsdale; his daughters, Melanie Chapman and Cheryl Tomlin; his sons-in-law, David Chapman and Bradley Tomlin; his grandsons, Ethan, Adam, and Evan Chapman; and many extended family members. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Animal Humane New Mexico, as Al had a soft spot for animals.

A memorial service will be held at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Monday, June 15, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.
