Albert Lee Hurt Jr., 86, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026.

Born into humble beginnings on a rural farm in Colorado, Albert learned early the value of hard work, discipline, and perseverance. Those early years shaped the toughness, self-reliance, and determination that defined his life. Through grit and steady resolve, he rose from modest circumstances to become a successful executive in the insurance industry, building stability and opportunity for his family.

Albert and his beloved wife, Mary Marlin Hurt, made their home in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1969. Together they built a life defined by loyalty, resilience, and deep devotion. For 64 years of marriage, Albert stood faithfully beside Mary. He often said he would "crawl a mile over broken glass" for her, a reflection of the depth of his love and commitment.

He was a devoted father to three sons: John (Leslea), Scott (Sheri), and Andrew (Maria). From humble beginnings, he helped launch three accomplished sons into the world. What began on a modest farm became a legacy of education, professional achievement, and opportunity. Albert took quiet but unmistakable pride in the lives his sons built and the opportunities they seized.

Albert, who picked up the nickname of "Butch" early in life, was a strong and determined man, living more than 18 years after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He faced life's challenges with resilience, quiet courage, and an unshakable sense of purpose. Ethics and respect mattered deeply to him, and he modeled those values consistently for his family.

He had a lifelong love of photography, cars, and motorcycles and found satisfaction in working with his hands. Whether repairing an engine, tuning a machine, or fixing what others might have given up on, he approached life as a builder and problem-solver.

In the later part of his career, Albert worked at CarMax where his combined love of cars and enjoyment of working with people enabled him to make many new friends.

Albert was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Rebekah Whitley, Christopher, Sarah Kerbo, Lesley Ann, Emily Sheveland, and Andrew, and a great-grandfather to three beloved great-grandchildren: Serenity Kerbo, Melody Kerbo, and Lucas Hurt. His family was his greatest joy and enduring legacy.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary Marlin; his parents, Priscilla and Albert Lee Hurt Sr.; sister, Anne; brother John; and by his granddaughter, Rachel Ellen Hurt, whose memory he carried close to his heart.

He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Though his physical presence is gone, his strength, loyalty, and fierce love remain woven into the lives of those he leaves behind.

In the Hurt family, it has always been - and will always be - family first.

Rest in peace, Albert Lee. You are loved beyond measure, and your legacy lives on.
