Alan J. Serlin

Alan J. Serlin, 79, of Albuquerque, NM, died peacefully on August 18, 2018 surrounded by family. He was born February 13, 1939 in Chicago, IL, the son of Max Serlin and Dorothy Serlin Gerber. He retired in Albuquerque in 1996. He graduated from DePaul University, Chicago, in 1962. He worked at Serlin Tires and then for Pitney Bowes for 36 years. He was one of the firm’s top salesman for many years and won an award as Branch Manager of the Year. Al was progressive and in 1984 he hired more woman than any other branch manager in the country. He gained success through his commitment to excellence, strong work ethic, kindness and the ability to work as a team player and treat everyone fairly. His success as a businessman reflected the qualities of his character which extended to all areas of his life. He embodied the finest of human nature in his unwavering love and devotion to family, personal integrity, generosity, patience, compassion and humility. He was fun-loving, independent and faced challenges with a positive attitude. A role model and a mentor, he brought out the best in people and helped change many lives. The love and respect he inspired goes beyond words. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Joel Serlin. He is survived by his devoted wife, Bonnie Serlin; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Troy Zukowski-Serlin; son and daughter-in-law, Richard Serlin and Orsolya Lazar; daughter and her love, Julie Hochfeld and John Schmidt; granddaughters, Rebecca Constable, Julia Serlin and Rachel Serlin; brother, Nathan Serlin and dear friends, Hugh, Ann and Jenny Doyle, Barry Berkowitz and Tom Wilmot. Al was a man of mitzvahs and he will be deeply missed by all who love him. The memorial date will be announced at a later date.
