Adam Cuevas Jr, a beloved father, husband, and friend, passed away on September 20, 2026 surrounded by his family. He was born in Mathis, Texas. At a young age, he moved with his family to Plainview, Texas, where he grew up and graduated from Plainview High School in 1968. Adam continued his education at New Mexico Highlands University, where he earned his bachelor's degree. Throughout his life, he carried with him a strong commitment to helping others and serving his community.
After completing his education, Adam and his family eventually returned to Plainview, where he began a career with the Texas Rehabilitation Commission. He dedicated ten years to helping people through his work there. He later worked briefly for Pioneer Hybrid, an opportunity that took him and his family to Iowa. Eventually, Adam and his family made their way to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he established a career as a Financial Planner for 25 years. He remained in the profession until his retirement with Ameriprise Financial in 2016.
Adam was a gifted and accomplished athlete. During his high school years, he was especially known for his skills on the football field and received awards and recognition for his athletic accomplishments in football and other sports. He was also selected to attend Boys State in Austin Texas, an honor that reflected his character, leadership, and involvement as a young man. Throughout his life, Adam valued community and fellowship. Prior to leaving Plainview in 1990, he was involved as a Boy Scout Leader. On February 6, 1999, he was inducted along with four other Boy Scout Leaders into the Haynes District Scouter Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Rotary Club, organizations through which he continued his commitment to service and connection with others.
One of Adam's greatest passions outdoors was golf. He loved both playing and watching the game. During his career, if he had a free day, he was likely to find a way to spend it on the golf course. He enjoyed the competition, the challenge, and the time spent outdoors, but perhaps most of all, he enjoyed the people and memories that came with every outdoor activity with family and friends. During his 10 years in retirement, he was an avid golfer, fisherman and enjoyed many camping trips with family. Adam will be remembered for his athletic spirit, dedication to his work, commitment to his community, and love for his family. Above all, he will be remembered by those who knew him as a man who lived a full and meaningful life, leaving behind memories that will be cherished for generations. His family and friends will miss him deeply, but his legacy will live on in the lives he touched and in the many stories, accomplishments, and moments they shared with him.
He is survived by his wife, Victoria, his two children, Adan (Lisa), Andria (Steven), and his grandchildren, Adan I Cuevas, Estevan Nunez, Enrique Nunez (Tylee), Selena Cuevas, Anthony Cuevas and Taylor Alwin, brothers, Gilbert Del Bosque, Rick Gomez, and Rudy Gomez, sisters, Yolanda Hernandez, Yrma Reyes, Elizabeth Lopez and Delia Nava, and one surviving aunt, Ester Cuevas-Joynes. Adam was preceded in death by his father, Adam Cuevas Sr, his mother, Ester Pena Gomez, his sister, Lucy Estrada, his brothers, Raymond Gomez Jr and Frankie Gomez.
A Rosary will take place Friday, October 9, 2026, at 9:30 am followed by Mass at 10:15 am, at St. Jude Thaddeus Parish, 5712 Paradise Blvd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114. Adam will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
