Abel Chavez

Abel A. Chavez passed away peacefully on Friday, December 23, 2022, at the age of 90. He passed at home with his family by his side. Abel was born in Albuquerque, NM on Monday, May 9, 1932, to his parents, Abel Sr. and Jesse Chavez. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Inez Rubio; and his daughter, Lisa Chavez Espinosa. Abel is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Alyce S. Chavez; his daughter, Jessica Lynn Chavez; his son, Abel Alan Chavez (Michele); son-in-law, Ignacio Espinosa; grandchildren, Abel Adrian, Ashley, Matthew, and four great-grandchildren; his sister, Bobbette (Clarence) Gutierrez, and numerous nieces and nephews. He retired in 1988 having served for 38 years in the 150th NM Air National Guard. He was a faithful member of El Buen Samaritano United Methodist Church serving in many official capacities, including the church choir. Memorial Services are being held on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at El Buen Samaritano United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions be made to El Buen Samaritano United Methodist Church- 700 Granite NW, Albuquerque, NM, 87102. The family is asking that all in attendance please observe COVID safe policies and wear masks.
