Abby Jane (Lessler) Harris

d. February 22, 2017

Abby Jane (Lessler) Harris, 81, passed away after a long illness on February 22, 2017. Abby was born and raised in Providence, RI. She met the love of her life, Lew Harris, at Boston University and they were married in 1955. By 1962, they had settled in Albuquerque and had three young boys.
A fiercely independent and strong woman, Abby was a wonderful mother, wife, grandmother, and homemaker. She had various creative talents including painting, sewing, cooking, quilting, and knitting - and she was an accomplished, self-taught pianist. Later in life, after successfully raising her children, she became a community advocate, specifically as a leader in the Mossman Neighborhood Association.
Abby was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Lewis Harris; by her parents, Simon and Ruth Lessler; and by a sister, Carolyn Lessler. Abby is survived by her sisters, Arlene "Cissy" Levine (Phil) and Carol Sokolov (Uri of blessed memory); and by her sons, Dave Harris (Lisa) of Memphis, Josh Harris (Denise) of Albuquerque, and Michael Harris (Ally) of Portland, Oregon. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral Services will be held at Congregation B'Nai Israel, 4401 Indian School Rd NE on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at 1:00 p.m., followed by Burial at Fairview Memorial Park. Abby requested that, in lieu of flowers, any donations in her memory be made to Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of American (ccfa.org) or Congregation B'Nai Israel of Albuquerque (bnaiisrael-nm.org).
