Mike Duran, Jr., 97, beloved father, husband, grandfather and brother was called to his eternal resting place on December 21, 2017. He entered this world on May 1, 1920 in Albuquerque, NM, born to Miguel and Josefita Duran. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, (Maria) Carmen Guerra Duran; sons, Mikie and Gilbert Duran; daughter, Gerri Ann Duran (Scot McClelland); granddaughters, Carmen McClelland and Magdalena (McClelland) Scheib (Jacob); and grandson, Scot McClelland, Jr. Mike was preceded in death by his sister, Pablita; and brothers, Philip (Jenny), Jose Maria "Joe" and his wife, Isabel, George (Connie - also still beautiful and vital!), and Albert.
Mike served in the Army during World War II and served in a railroad/transportation Army Company in Alaska and in the Philippines. Mike worked for Navajo Freight Lines, Arkansas Best Freight, and after he retired from commercial trucking, he continued to drive for Highland Pharmacy for several years making deliveries and enjoying daily interactions with customers and fellow employees. Mike spent 67 years making sure he did all that he could for his family and did so with a loving smile on his face. Mike loved to travel and was always available to participate in an adventure (when he was 87 years young he climbed Mt. Vesuvius). He especially loved to watch a movie with his son, Mikie (he had all of the John Wayne movies committed to memory), or "make sawdust" in his woodshop, hoping that one of his projects was useful and sturdy. Mike played baseball in his younger years making friends along the way and continued his love for the game until his late eighties when he finally stopped playing city league softball for seniors. Mike was one of the kindest and gentlest humans ever placed on this earth and we are certain that he is now in the loving arms of Jesus Christ, who is ensuring that Mike's eternity is all that his beautiful soul deserves. Many thanks to Dad's loving and competent caregivers, Ann, Janell, Alicia, Daniella and Carmen who afforded us the privilege of having him stay at home until he entered the Gates of Heaven.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 with Rosary being recited at 9:30 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. at San Felipe de Neri Parish, 2005 North Plaza NW, Albuquerque, NM 87104 in Old Town.
