Amelia (Fresquez) Sisneros

May 5, 1930 — May 10, 2023

Amelia (Fresquez) Sisneros, was born in Espanola, New Mexico on Monday, May 5, 1930, to the late Melecio Fresquez and Braulia Fresquez (Ortiz). She passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, May 10, 2023, after a long illness. She was 93 years old.

Amelia lived a rich and varied life. Born into the grasp of the great depression, Amelia learned hard work early and embraced it her entire life. A native of Espanola, New Mexico Amelia and her husband Tony Sisneros lived in Albuquerque for decades. She retired after years of work at Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico. A native Spanish speaker, Amelia assisted customers of Blue Cross Blue Shield as they sought assistance for medical insurance complications.

Amelia contributed as an active member of St. John XXIII. Staying active, she was a fixture at childrens' parties and public events as Amelia the Mexican Clown. Until illness took her ability to drive, she continued her husband's business as a process server.

In her high school yearbook, Amelia wrote that she liked everyone and everything. She spoke her mind. At the same time, she was kind. Amelia loved her family, her husband, and God, and lived her life with unfailing style. The world is a better place because she was in it.

Amelia was preceded in death by her husband Tony; sisters, Amanda Rolfes, Lou Lujan and Gilda Quintana; and brothers, Tony Fresquez and Benito Fresquez. She leaves behind her sister, Angelina Romero of Espanola; her children, Cynthia (Sisneros) Semarge of Manhattan, Kansas, Michael Sisneros of Tijeras, New Mexico, Danny Sisneros of Albuquerque as well as seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A Rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. and  Amelia's Funeral is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at St. John XXIII Catholic Church and she will be laid to rest at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Wednesday, May 31, 2023. A reception will follow the mass.
