Naomi Rose RidingerNovember 22, 1937 ~ December 22, 2017 (age 80)
Naomi Rose Jones McCahon Ridinger, 80, passed away Friday Dec. 22, 2017 in Albuquerque, NM. She had suffered with Alzheimer’s the last few years but always remained happy and friendly and she kept a song in her heart until the end. Naomi was born in Fulbright, Texas the eldest of eight children. She loved music and through the years she directed church choirs in Anthony, Texas and the Shrine Choristers in Albuquerque, NM. She led a ministry by directing a choir for the federal prison at La Tuna Texas and sang for many special occasions including family weddings. She was active in the Anthony community including serving as Chair of the Anthony ISD school board. She obtained a degree in Music Education and Voice from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and taught Elementary Vocal Music in the El Paso public schools for 20 years.
Naomi is survived by her children, Royal (Jennifer) Jones, Jr., Suzan (Kenny) Ross, Rachel (Joe) Rippey, Nanette Contreras, Jason (Karen) Jones; grandchildren, Royal (Terry) Jones III, Jackie Jones, Holly (Stephen) Webb, Mikey Romero, Laura Baas, Ruben Contreras, Jr, Naomi (Jon) Brickley, Meagan Contreras, Ashley Millay, Claire Mills, Jedi and Babi Jones; great grandchildren, Royal IV, Peyton, Chandler, Ethan, Emily, Mason, Adam, Lexi, and Evangelina; brother, Tony McClanahan; sister, Kelly Bedell-Burke and a host of cousins, nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband’s James McCahon and James Ridinger, her brothers and sisters Don, Johnny, Sue, Mike and Jeannie, and her mother Bess Bedell.
Funeral service will be on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church at 201 Lincoln St. Anthony, NM with Rev. Nathan Chavez and Rev. Harry Chapman officiating. Pall bearers are Kenny Ross, Joe Rippey, Royal Jones III, Jon Brickley, Jakob Jedi Jones, and Mikey Romero. A memorial service for both Naomi and Jim Ridinger will be on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at FRENCH – Westside.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Westside Cumberland Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 15209, Rio Rancho, NM 87174.
