John H. Weinlein age 79, died at home Sunday evening, May 26, 2019, of a sudden heart attack. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Tuesday, July 25, 1939. He has survived by his wife of 38 years, Barbara; daughter, Sharon Pearson; son, Kirt Weinlien (Elaine); granddaughters, Stasia Mondragon (Ray), Justine Mestas (Garett); grandson, Skylar Pearson; plus several special cousins and their families; and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Evangeline (Mona) Olesko; younger brother, William (Bill) Weinlein; and sister, Theresa Kulbacki.
He attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering and earned his degree as an Electrical Engineer, 3rd in his class. He came directly to Albuquerque, NM in 1961, and began working for the Sandia National Laboratory and ended his career as a Senior Staff Member. He retired at age 57 after 36 years at the Labs in April 1997. Then consulted for the Labs for another fourteen years.
He loved his church. He was a member of Christ Luthern Church since the late 70s. Helped whenever needed. He also used his many talents to help and support the "God Cares About You Mission."
Upon retiring, he started a bottomless Bucket List. He took flying lessons and become a pilot and bought his Piper Cherokee airplane. He flew up until his death for about 22 years. He then bought a cabin in the northern part of the Jemez, and enjoyed it for many years, exploring that area on his ATV. He restored five Austin-Healeys sports cars from scratch. He was a member of the Roadrunners Healey Club. John turned one Healey into a race car and raced it for about three years. Recently he restored a Vietnam Military Jeep and a second one half finished. He also loved fishing, and hunting, especially all over New Mexico. He lived his life to the fullest. John touched many people lives during his lifetimes through work, activites, and many ventures. He will be fondly remembered, loved, and forever missed.
