Robert F. Brisbin

Robert F. Brisbin, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 25th, four weeks to the day after having suffered a major stroke. Born in Syracuse, NY, October 14, 1948, and transplanted by family to Chamblee, GA, he is survived by his wife, Kyle L. (Manning), daughters Kellie and husband Brett Kingsley of Parker, Colorado; Marissa and husband Craig Sommer and granddaughter Emelie of Albuquerque; Melanie; son Sean of Albuquerque; sister, Patricia and husband Tom Samples of Douglasville, GA, and brother, John. He was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Marie Brisbin of St. Petersburg, FL. Robert enlisted in the United States Army in 1968 at the age of 17 and rose to the rank of Sergeant. After completing AIT at Fort Polk, LA, he was assigned to the Defense Atomic Support Agency in Albuquerque, NM for one year and later completed two overseas tours (Vietnam and Indo China) with the 716th Combat Military Police Battalion, 90th Detachment. Upon leaving Vietnam in 1973, Robert was assigned to the 984th Military Police Company, Fort Carson, CO and then transferred to Fort Myers, VA and worked with the 561st Military Police Company. He received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army in March 1975. Robert's civilian profession spanned over thirty years to include: Law Enforcement Training; El Paso County Deputy Sheriff; Deputy Sheriff with Sandoval and Valencia Counties, Regional Manager for Institute for Combat Arms and Tactics (ICAT); State Manager with Combined Insurance; Sales Agent with General Electric; District Manger with General Electric Mobile Communications: and owner of A Special Effect and Nuggets Marketing; editor of the New Stars and Stripes Veteran's Voice Military Newspaper, as well as working directly with law enforcement agencies and being a passionate advocate for veterans and veteran's agencies in NM. He entered the New Mexico State Defense Force in August, 2003 as Captain; served as Deputy Chief of Staff G-5 for the New Mexico Army National Guard Amory in Albuquerque, was promoted to Major in 2003 and to Lieutenant Colonel in 2004. Robert was assigned duty as Provost Marshal and Civic Affairs Officer, Department of Military Affairs, New Mexico State Defense Force in 2004. In 2007 Robert organized a local unit of the United States Volunteers, an organization purposed to provide final honors to military veterans and war casualties. This organization was later reconstituted under the name of the 47th New Mexico Regiment. Robert, his wife Kyle, and their family have been faithful members of Triumph Centre of Albuquerque, NM, and he will be missed by the many who knew him to be a caring and compassionate soldier of both his country and his church. Services will be held Friday, January 30, 2015, 10:00 a.m., at FRENCH - Wyoming. Friends may visit beginning at 9:00 a.m. Burial will be in Santa Fe at the National Cemetery at 2:15 with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Triumph Centre of Albuquerque, 7800 Holbrook N.E., Albuquerque, NM 87122.
