Elodia A. Valdez, age 85, was born in Cuba, NM and was a longtime resident of Bernalillo, NM, died peacefully in her sleep on February 26, 2015. She is survived by her husband, George of Bernalillo; sons, Abe and wife Laura, and Martin both of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Natalie, Memphis, TN; grandsons, Jacob, Lucas and Adam all of Albuquerque, and great-grandson, Aiden of Memphis TN. She is also survived by her brothers, Felimon, Jacobo, Willie and wife Viola, and Elden and wife Patricia; sister, Katie and husband Roy; and countless nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacobo and Juanita De Herrera, brothers, Eulalio, Eustacio and Eduardo; sisters, Emma Sigmon and Anna Jaramillo. Elodia retired from the Bernalillo Public Schools in 1983. She had over 13 teaching assignments during her 32 year career. Her first teaching assignment was in a one room classroom building in Cuba, NM which included teaching two of her younger brothers, to finishing her tenure at Bernalillo Public Schools as a librarian. She had an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and a Master's degree in Bilingual Education and Library Science. A Rosary will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2015, 7:00 p.m., at Church of the Incarnation, 2309 Monterrey Rd. NE, Rio Rancho. The Mass of Christian burial will take place Monday, March 2, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., also at Church of the Incarnation with a reception to follow. Interment will take place at 2:30 p.m. at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 7999 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Albuquerque. She was a longtime volunteer with St Vincent de Paul and a lifelong member of Right to Life. She had a special devotion to Our Blessed Mother. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that you send donations to the Carmelite Monastery, 49 Mount Carmel Rd, Santa Fe, NM 87505.
